The news is that Chris Weitz has been confirmed as the new director for New Moon. I'm starting to feel better about this decision, especially with the blessing of Stephenie and the letter he's released, and also his quote:

"I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding NEW MOON from the page to the screen," said Weitz. "The extraordinary world that Stephenie has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book."

Summit also has a press release announcing the news On their site, so you know it's true.

Meanwhile rumors continue to circulate about the fate of Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. We, of course, support Taylor, and there has been a big movement in the fan community to tell Summit we want Jacob to STAY. Amanda, a friend from t20s, is helping spread the word about a campaign to tell Summit we want to keep Taylor and that we want a bigger budget for New Moon.

The Summit campaign is called DOLLARS AND DOG BISCUITS. Click the link to check out the youtube video and get involved. Though I do not agree with Amanda necessarily about Twilight being "a craptastic movie," I do think that the campaign is a good idea.

Also, I went to FYE last night and saw the Edward Cullen action figures! Boy, was I surprised! They looked awesome!

Luckily I also snagged one of the only two Twilight sountracks on VINYL last night at Hot Topic. It's a gatefold with three posters (Bella. Edward, James) and the Cullen group shot on the inside. Really cool!

And lastly, Edward was on a postsecret today.

As a sidenote, I fully support the Postsecret books and Post Secret's Movement. It is an amazing thing. They unfortunately are not doing too well financially right now, and they do a lot to help people. Post Secret donates a lot to Suicide Prevention, but the impact they have is so much more. Buy one of their books this holiday and help them help others.

As you can see, our site's layout has been tweaked by a certian webmaster's Team Switzerland tendencies... *smiles sheepishly* It's my love for Taylor only, I swear! We will be sporting this header during the Summit debacle. No, we are not changing our entire mission to support Taylor Lautner instead of Midnight Sun. BUT, we are sure going to show our support!!

Things are looking serious about the new prospective director, Chris Weitz. Hollywood Insider is calling it all but official. I don't know how I feel about this...but if they DO pick him, I hope he does a good job. I hope he loves and cares about the story. The decision is supposed to be announced no later than the beginning of the week.

Catherine's last mark on the Twilight Saga is going to be the Twilight DVD. Check out the lowdown on the DVD specs here, in her final interview with MTV.

First things first: THIS WEEKEND IS THE DEADLINE for the care package!! If you want to be included in the care package to Stephenie, you need to have your letter in the mail by MONDAY, December 15, at the very latest.Click here for info about what to include in your letter.

SECOND! Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider has posted rumors that Taylor Lautner is possibly going to be replaced for the role of Jacob Black. We at SMS.COM are NOT OKAY with this, SUMMIT! I don't know if it is true or not, but if you love Taylor like we do (come on guys- the look he gave Edward at the end of Twilight more than cemented him in the role!) then here is what you can do:

This isn't the only fauxpas being played by Summit lately. Other rumors include a scant $50 million budget (come on..werewolves, new cast members, Italy? Really, Summit?), trying to push the movie out by November 2009 (Less than a year for filming, extensive travel, with no director yet and new main characters to cast? Not to mention extensive possible CGI work?), and apparently extending directing offers to The director whose more recent work included the lackluster Golden Compass. True, About a Boy was a good film, but trying to hook the guy who directed American Pie? I don't know.

Again. Write Summit. Please. Let them know how you feel. They promised that staying true to the series and its fans was their first priority...so let's let them know what they need to stay true to, EXACTLY.

Although not confirmed on Summit's Official Website, strong rumors state that Catherine Hardwicke, diector of Twilight, has parted ways with Summit Entertainment over New Moon. The Twilight Lexicon reports on their news blog that they recieved the official news from Summit today via Email with quotes from Catherine and head Summit officials. Again, this has not been confirmed via Summit's website, but the news seems true. The reasons seem kind of murky and on a biased note...I don't totally buy it.

If it is true that we've lost Catherine as the director for the Twilight saga, I am sad yet torn as a Twilighter. I very much appreciated her love of the books and relationship with the cast. There were directing choices she made that I did not agree with, but overall her contribution to the Twilight universe has been a good one. I was confident that she would treat some of the very important aspects of New Moon with grace and thoughtfulness. If New Moon does have to seek a new director, I cross my fingers in ardent hope that Summit searches for someone who not only will remain true to the tone of the original film, but is as passionate and dedicated to the faithful portrayal of the book as Catherine was.

Well, it has been an AMAZING weekend! I took a break from anything SMS to just get into the hype of the movie coming out and attend seveal movie events. I would like to extend a personal thank you to Summit and the cast and crew of Twilight for making this movie largely a successly venture. They tried very hard to please a lot of very passionate and picky people and for the most part, did an amazing job. I am really honored to be a part of it all!

As is being reported all over entertainment news, the Twilight film is breaking records and making a big splash left and right. Box Office Mojo has all the number-crunching so you can see how it rates. The reviews are coming out mixed, but Twilight fans have spoken, and no one can silence us! $70 MILLION opening weekend?! Not bad, Twilighters!

In more movie news, as I am sure most of you have heard, SUMMIT has given NEW MOON a green light!! We will have more of the Twilight saga on the big screen! YAY!

MTV posted a great artist-on-artist interview with Hayley from Paramore and Rob Pattinson.

We are only 8 days away from the midnight premier of Twilight! That being said, Seth announced on S.Meyer's official site that the Twilight soundtrack is the #1 best selling album this week on Billboard! That is unprecedented for a soundtrack, especially before the movie release. Yay Twilighters!

Also the cover of USA weekend got a sneak preview on Steph's site. Check that out for listings of where it's available in you area.

To those few people with pending Twilight Love pics and SMS Affiliate Apps, fear not, I have received them and am working on it ASAP.

MTV has an interview with Catherine Hardwicke about the DVD of Twilight, potential sequels, and the fact that she shot a Midnight Sun-specific deleted scene to be included in the DVD release.

Firstly, it's my birthday today!

Secondly, I have been getting a few emails about the Interview EW did with Stephenie Meyer in which she talked about Midnight Sun. To answer your questions: Yes, I am familiar with the article. I read it the day it came out. No, I have not come to a conclusive decision on how sms.com will react to this information. It has been a trying week for me, and in light of this article I am not prepared to respond yet. When I do, it will be posted here.

I apologize to everyone for being a big jerk and not updating...but there have been some health crises in my family, and I had to make a trip to Boston at the last minute! Then I returned home to find my internet shut off. And I can't find the charger to my camera to get those Care Package pics up. BUT WORRY NOT, I am back, in full swing, with my computer working, and a lot of time to devote to all of you.

Twilighters! I'm really sorry that I haven't posted any updates lately...but my harddrive died on my computer, so SMS has been operating partially crippled! So sorry. I have a few banners to put up, some pics for Twilight Love, and some other stuff, so that will be done ASAP.

A special HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CAR, CO-OWNER OF SMS.COM!! Without her all of this would not be possible. Love her! And am super jealous of her for getting to go to the upcoming Red Carpet Premier of Twilight in LA! But...you know what that means, right? Yes. We WILL have realtime coverage of the LA Premier from our very own Miss Car.

Speaking of the Twilight movie, if you are 20something, you can visit our affiliate Twilight20Somethings.com and visit their forum to organize movie meetups. The Midwest one is going to be in Ft Wayne, and one in Chicago too! Yay for being a t20. I'll be at both Midwest events!

Just a quick visit to say that AccioCon is having a Twilight-related theme this year! Vampires vs. Werewolves! There will be a masquerade, a Harry Potter vs. Twilight debate, etc! The Twilighters are also going to be playing. Sounds fun for Floridians and travelers alike!

Sorry for not updating frequently lately...but as this Care Package winds to conclusion, all I can do is patiently wait for all the letters to arrive. Not much to report!

I really really cannot wait for the announcement on OCT 3 about Twicon! I am going to die from anticipation.

We had a record for amount of letters in my P.O. Box in one day yesterday- 23! I have a LOT of letters, but I'd never recieved that many at once (any I check it every day!) Good job everyone!

If you have not mailed your letter yet, please contact me so we can make arrangements! I want eveyone to get a chance. Don't be shy.

If you have emailed me in the last 2-3 days and are waiting for an email back from me, rest assured I will reply tonight. I am usually very prompt, but I've been very busy and very exhausted.

Also, for those as out of the loop as I am, an event called TWICON is going to be held in 2009! Check out Twicon.org for their forum, and a mysterious countdown! I'm hoping it's the announcement of the location...and I'm hoping that SMS.com can have some sort of presence there!

Just because I have been receiving some emails of concern, I wanted to clear up some things about the deadline for the letter writing campaign.

If we have made a previous agreement about the arrival of your letter, don't worry about the deadline.

If you are one of the few people who I gave permission to send me a scanned letter/letters, don't worry about the deadline.

If you missed the deadline but still want your letter to be included in this package, email me ASAP and we can discuss alternatives.

I will be mailing off the package in a week and a half, approximately, to give time for all the letters to finish arriving. If you are an international Twilighter and you think your letter will be later than that, please email me so I know you letter is coming. I will make sure to wait for it.

The deadline for the next care package has not been decided yet, but will be announced in the coming weeks after I package and send off the curent one.

The Twilight Lexicon is pioneering a campaign to save Forks High School, called Twilighters for Forks, because it has been mostly condemned and is in danger of being torn down. If you would like to get involved, you can go to Forks Forum. Why save Forks High? Because, it deserves to stand the test of time as the place Bella and Edward went to school and met...and also because the town fo Forks means so much to Twilight fans. It is not just a place in a book. It represents so much more. Give back.

Also, Twilight has made it to the front page of Hot Topic's website. They have some cool merch...and the rumormill says they have aquired a pretty hefty license to carry a unique vaiety of Twilight merch in the future.

I hope everyone who was procrastinating got their letters in the mail for me today!! Today was the deadline. If this was an issue for you...please email me. I want to be able to give everyone a chance, but I need to hear from you first to make sure I know about late letters.

Is it 2 A.M. Already? Happy Stephenie Meyer day!! Yay!! Happy 21st Birthday Bella! For those of you interested in how the town of Forks is celebrating today, check this out: Peninsula Daily News.

I would really like to see photos of any Twilighters and their festivities on this very delightful occasion. I think I am going to try and get some quality time in with Isabella, my pretty little Honda. And maybe make some fanart. And of course, postcard campaign!! And uh..since it's her 21st...maybe a cocktail should be involved. If you're legal, people.

I did make a scrapbook page in the wee hours of this morning to kick-start the holiday...our affiliate, twilight20somethings.com is wrangling in the stragglers for their Scrapbook for Stephenie, and I made my page to send off. And yeah. I know. I can't cut a straight line to save my life.

Just wanted to remind each of you that the deadline for the letters is coming up fast. Everyone needs to have their letters in the mail by the time this weekend rolls around. I'm not being picky about if it's Friday or Saturday or whatever, but just make sure and get everything in the mail before Sunday.

Also, Stephenie Meyer day is coming up, this Saturday! September 13 marks this Twilight holiday AND Bella's birthday, and I'd LOVE to know what all of you are doing to celebrate! Please send me photos. I want to see some Bella Birthday Cakes....

Don't forget for Stephenie Meyer Day that the Support Stephenie project asks everyone to wear a Twilight themed shirt to whatever events you have scheduled for the day...and if that is not possible because of dress code, they ask you to wear red, black, and white; and/or maybe a Twilight pin or something similar to show your support.

I'd like to see everyone using this great opportunity to do our Postcard Campaign. I know on the 13th I am going to be at bookstores! Print some postcards, and if you get an opportunity to share Twilight with someone, or you meet a Twilighter celebrating SM day too, give them a card and let them know how they can help. Let's spread the word!!

To answer some of your questions and do some updating:

WHERE TO SEND LETTERS: I know there is no address listed on this site yet. That is because I have to pick up the keys for the P.O. Box tomorrow, and I will be given the official address! I PROMISE I will post it as soon as I have it. Just hold off on sending your letters until tomorrow.

Please keep in mind I want everyone's letters in the mail before next weekend. That's just under two weeks!

MORE QUESTIONS have been added to the F.A.Q. Have a question? See if we've answered it before you email us about it please! We are answering questions about LETTERS there!

Also, please consider when sending fanart and fan photos...we have to host each and every image you send us. While I like for them to be a decent size, huge ones take up a lot more space on our server. Be considerate about sizing, so we can fit more in the Twilight Love section!

Speaking of Twilight Love...fantastic submissions so far!! I will have those up hopefully by tomorrow, but I am very busy. Hello, and welcome to the launch of Support Midnight Sun!

This site is devoted to unifying fans of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series for one purpose: to support Stephenie Meyer and the unreleased novel Midnight Sun. We hope in the coming months that it will be THE go-to site for all information for the book and events surrounding it.

We as Twilighters understand that Stephenie is going through turmoil that cannot be measured...but here at SupportMidnightSun.com, we hope to make efforts to remind her that there are still plenty of faithful fans who stand behind her 100% and are loyally waiting for her to return to her beloved series. We know she loves Bella and Edward just as much as we do...and we hope that our support will help her feel that she, too, is not quite ready to let them go.
